Driving the Ferrari 158, John Surtees scored the opening victory in his Championship year at the German Grand Prix. The image depicts him exiting the Ardenau Bridge on the daunting Nurburgring circuit, leading the Brabham of Dan Gurney, with Clark's Lotus and the BRM of Graham Hill following. Surtees is the only man to win the World Championship on both 2 and 4 wheels.

Driving a Ferrari 375 Plus Jose Gonzales and Maurice Tritignant won the 1954 race from the Jaguar D type of Tony Rolt and Duncan Hamilton. The image shows the Ferrari leading the Bristol 450 of Fairman and Wisdom and the Gordini of Pollet and Guelfi. Following is the second placed Jaguar of Rolt and Hamilton. The Gordini went on to win the 3 litre class whilst the Bristol team secured the 2 litre class.

The Porsche 956 of Barilla, Ludwig and Winter passes a March 84G as they thunder past Les Hunaudieres. The Joest Racing entry outpaced the works car and used less fuel to achieve a record average speed and score their second straight victory.

The winning McLaren F1 GTR of Lehto, Dalmas and Sekiya is shown on the Mulsanne Straight in appalling weather conditions. McLaren became only the third manufacturer in the history of Le Mans to win the race at the first attempt.

Porsche celebrated their 50th anniversary in style by winning the 1998 Le Mans. Competing against factory teams from Mercedes, BMW, Toyota and Nissan, the works Porsche team finished a magnificent first and second. The winning car of Allan McNish, Stephane Ortelli and Laurent Aiello is shown leading the sister car of Bob Wollek, Jorg Muller and Uwe Alzen.

Amongst the 481 starters for the 20th running of the greatest of all road races, there were no fewer than six factory teams competing for overall success. Victory eventually went to Giannino Marzotto driving a Ferrari 340 MM Vignale, who completed the 945 miles at an average of 89mph.

The winning Mercedes 300SLR of Stirling Moss and navigator Denis Jenkinson negotiating a level crossing between Pescara and Rome on the way to victory in the 1955 Mille Miglia. The pair won this great race in just 10 hours, 7 minutes and 48 seconds, an average speed of 97.96 mph which was never to be beaten.
